چکیده
To satisfy the quality of service requirements of real-time multimedia applications, networks must employ resource reservation and admission control. In this paper, we describe a new Measurement-Based Admission Control (MBAC) algorithm that uses empirical traac envelopes of the aggregate traac ow to allocate network resources. Our framework of traac envelopes provides a robust and accurate characterization of the aggregate ow, capturing the extent to which ows statistically multiplex as well as the temporal correlation structure of the aggregate ow. In estimating applications' future performance, we introduce the notion of a schedulability conndence level which describes the uncertainty of the measurement-based \prediction", based on which we devise techniques to accurately estimate packet loss probability for a buuered multiplexer servicing heterogeneous and bursty traac ows. A new algorithm for measurement-based admission control in integrated services packet networks
The purpose of call admission control in Integrated Services Networks is to ooer a guarantee that Quality of Service (QoS) bounds are not violated due to the admission of new calls into the network. This is typically accomplished using the declared worst-case traac descriptors for incoming calls, a solution which results in poor bandwidth utilization. A measurement-based admission scheme is an ...

متن کاملProviding QoS with Measurement{Based Admission Control
Integrated services networks perform call admission control before accepting a new connection to ensure that the QoS requirements of all connections are met. Rather than relying on a priori traac descriptors (such as leaky buckets), which often poorly characterize the actual traac, measurement{based admission control bases admission decisions on measurements of the actual traac. In this paper w...
متن کاملA Measurement-Based Admission Control Algorithm for Integrated Service Packet Networks - Networking, IEEE/ACM Transactions on
Many designs for integrated services networks offer a bounded delay packet delivery service to support real-time applications. To provide bounded delay service, networks must use admission control to regulate their load. Previous work on admission control mainly focused on algorithms that compute the worst case theoretical queueing delay to guarantee an absolute delay bound for all packets. In ...
متن کاملMeasurement-Based Performance and Admission Control in Wireless Sensor Networks
This journal paper presents a measurement-based performance management system for contention-based wireless sensor networks. Its main features are admission and performance control based on measurement data from lightweight performance meters in the endpoints. Test results show that admission and performance control improve the predictability and level of performance. The system can also be use...
متن کاملA parameter based admission control for differentiated services networks
The Differentiated Services architecture targets at providing scalable network Quality of Service by means of aggregate scheduling. However, the defined framework itself only gives a number of building blocks, which do not constitute services yet. In order to provide well defined services, the composition of the respective traffic aggregates has to be controlled. This is usually the task of the...
